Mangaluru, Jun 19: District In-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao urged educational institutions to join hands with the district administration and the police department in tackling the drug menace in the district.

The district in-charge minister held a meeting with the police commissioner, superintendent of police, and deputy commissioner regarding measures to address the issue.

He stated, “We need to control the drug menace in the district and implement the law effectively. Educational institutions must collaborate with the district administration to tackle this issue. We need to focus on drug peddlers even as we catch consumers, who are often victims. Teachers in educational institutions should inform authorities about students' behavioural changes and symptoms. There is a need for coordinated efforts and strict law enforcement.”

He also mentioned that on June 26, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking will be observed, and a program should be planned involving all stakeholders. “The tackling of the drug menace should not be a one-time drive but a permanent setup,” he emphasized.

Regarding the peace meeting in the district, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “I will meet the home minister and fix a date for the peace meeting.”

Dinesh Gundu Rao, Catch the drug suppliers, not the sellers. It is in government's hands. You have the power. Don't tell the educational institutions for do your job to them.
