Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 26: Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts experienced widespread rainfall on Wednesday, prompting authorities to issue an orange alert for June 26. The alert follows heavy rain and gusty winds that caused disruptions across several areas.
In Mangaluru city, strong winds and heavy rain during the morning and afternoon led to a tree and electric pole collapsing near Vyasanagar, briefly affecting traffic movement.

Sullia taluk witnessed heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the morning, which continued through the afternoon and evening. Poor drainage in many parts of the town caused rainwater to overflow onto roads, creating inconvenience for the public. In Goonadka village of Sampaje, a tree branch fell on a parked car, damaging it. MESCOM's Sullia sub-division reported damage to electric poles and power lines in various areas due to falling trees and branches.
Moderate rainfall was reported across Udupi district, with overcast skies prevailing throughout the day. Strong winds accompanied the rain in parts of Padubidri, Uchila, Kaup, and Shirva.
In view of continued heavy rainfall and increased rain intensity in ghat areas, all Anganwadi centres, primary and high schools — including government, aided, and private institutions — in Beltangady taluk have been declared closed for June 26. The order was issued by tahsildar Prithvi Sanikem as a precautionary measure.
The weather department has forecast continued rainfall with strong winds for the region. An orange alert has been declared for June 26, followed by a yellow alert for June 27 and 28.
