Puttur: Crocodile spotted in Nethravathi river at Panjal, Uppinangady

Puttur, June 29: A lone crocodile was sighted in the Nethravathi River at Panjal on Saturday, sparking fresh concerns among locals. In recent times, crocodile sightings have been reported in both the Nethravathi and Kumaradhara rivers near Uppinangady, leaving residents anxious.

A few days ago, a massive crocodile was seen resting on the riverbank in the Nekkiladi area of the Kumaradhara River. The reptile quickly slipped into the water upon noticing a crowd of people. In the latest incident on Saturday, a smaller crocodile was spotted in the Panjal stretch of the Nethravathi.

Crocodile presence in the Nethravathi around Uppinangady has been noted over the past three years. Due to the river remaining full throughout the year, there is a possibility that crocodiles have made it their permanent habitat.

With crocodiles being sighted in different locations, fears are growing among the public that swimming or entering the Nethravathi River could become increasingly dangerous in the coming days.

We humans with our endless greed and selfishness destroyed the natural habitats of all living beings without giving a second thought. Now they are visiting the humans, so why the surprise.

It looks like more than only crocodile in Netravati.Nearby is riverdam a huge mud is collected and covered with gras etc.I fear crocodile has laid eggs and watching it.Please be careful.Till the eggs are open and small crocos comeout it may not spare anyone who nears it.Since in the past more rain and floodwater has collected ,there is a possibility crocos have wandered. Can some specialists come and look into it and transfer it elsewhere in zoo?

Anything that looks like Potential prey ( Lunch , Dinner , or breakfast) to a Crocodile is it's food there are not man eaters and will try to grab anything in their reach beyond their size . So the fisher men and the the people fishing on the shore .Houses with cats , dogs and other farm animals must take care. These reptiles can grow more than 18 ft in length so don,t take them lightly. Where there are female crocodile's there is bound to be a male as well which is 5 times bigger than a female and has the capacity to even attack and kill even a domestic fully grown adult Ox or bull, so guys at the river side and nearby please take care. I urge that the local Municipality to start setting up traps to capture and relocate them before they start reproducing offspring ( babys ) which may go out of control in the coming days with proper corrective action is not taken with out in delay

Of late we get to hear Tigers being poisoned, pet dog was killed to fulfil Occult rituals. Since Crocodiles are found near riverbanks some villagers may try to finish it to save themselves from likely dangers of this cold-blooded opportunist.
