Walter Nandalike highlights role of laity in nation building at Holy Cross Church, Byndoor

Byndoor, July 2: Laity Day was celebrated with devotion and reflection at Holy Cross Church, Byndoor, on Sunday, June 29, as part of the church’s jubilee year celebrations. The programme was held after the morning Mass in the church mini hall.

Chief guest and speaker for the event was Daijiworld’s founder, editor-in-chief, and managing director Walter D’Souza Nandalike. In his address, he emphasized the pivotal role of the laity in the Church and society. He called upon the youth of the Christian community to take active roles in politics, education, and government sectors. Stressing the importance of community empowerment, he urged parents to encourage their children to pursue careers in public service, thereby strengthening the community’s presence and contribution to nation building.

During the Mass, parish priest Fr Vincent Cuvello offered special prayers for the laity.

Also present on the dais were parish council vice president Stephan Dias, Catholic Sabha Byndoor unit president Pradeep Fernandes, and Rony Byndoor. Josephine Rodrigues introduced the chief guest, and on behalf of the parishioners, Fr Vincent Cuvello presented a token of gratitude to Walter Nandalike.

The event was attended by around 220 parishioners. Asha Lobo served as the MC and delivered the vote of thanks.
