Retired police officer brandishes double-barrel gun, threatens workers in Bengaluru; panic ensues

Bengaluru, July 2: Panic gripped Bengaluru’s upscale Sadashivanagar locality on Monday after a retired police officer allegedly stormed out of his home wielding a double-barrel gun and issued threats to construction workers and a lorry driver outside his residence.

The accused, identified as Jayaprakash, a former senior police officer, reportedly flew into a rage after a container lorry moved slowly past his house, located next to an under-construction apartment complex. In a dramatic outburst, he allegedly emerged with a firearm and shouted at the lorry driver and several nearby labourers, threatening them in a loud and aggressive manner.

The incident occurred just a stone’s throw away from the residence of Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara, sparking security concerns and creating a brief but intense atmosphere of fear in the area.

Eyewitnesses, including local residents, captured video footage of the officer’s actions on their mobile phones. The clips, which quickly circulated on social media, show the retired officer holding the firearm and arguing heatedly with those present. His behaviour has since drawn strong public criticism, with many calling it a blatant misuse of authority and a dangerous display of intimidation.

“The officer appeared enraged and waved the gun around as he shouted at the workers. It was alarming for everyone nearby,” said a local resident who witnessed the incident.

Sadashivanagar police have confirmed that they are aware of the episode. “The retired officer did step out with a gun. However, no formal complaint has been lodged as of now,” a senior police official stated.

Despite the absence of an official FIR, police are said to be monitoring the situation closely and may take suo motu cognisance of the matter, given the seriousness of the incident and its potential implications for public safety.

Further investigation is expected.

Of course this action is not be taken as only threat.AT this age as a retired officer he can also use it when situation is not tolerable.Better officers should takeaway his gun cause of danger.and his age.To protect people around and other participants.Only observing might turn out high alert danger too. Then it is too late.

Construction in Bengaluru is really a nuisance. No timings, no noise control, no sense in dumping the material. BBMP once gives the permission never ever comes and inspects the spot...as to how the vicinity is maintained. Rest of the give and take I am unaware. Retired officer's action is not of great nature but I am sure he must have been facing day in and out the irritation of the ongoing project.
