Mumbai, Jul 10: Veteran filmmaker Suneel Darshan has criticised actress Deepika Padukone’s reported demand to work only eight-hour shifts, calling it unrealistic and impractical for the film industry.
In an interview with IANS, Darshan questioned the practicality of such a condition, stating that if an actor insists on an eight-hour schedule, producers should secure a written commitment that the actor will actually be working during the full duration. He remarked that in reality, if actors dedicate even four sincere hours on set, it would be a relief to the production team.
Calling Deepika’s request "unreal," Darshan emphasised the need to collaborate with individuals who are more committed to the project than concerned with personal terms. He added that no one in the film industry is irreplaceable and that new talent can always be found.
Actress Chitrangda Singh, offering a different view, noted that such matters depend on mutual understanding between the actor, director, and producer. She acknowledged the time and budget constraints of the industry but also defended Deepika’s right to make choices, given her stature.
Deepika’s reported condition has sparked a debate across the film industry, reflecting growing tensions between traditional expectations and evolving conversations around work-life balance and professional autonomy.
