Mumbai, Jul 20: In a dramatic turn of events that unfolded at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan police station, a case has been registered against NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar for allegedly obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties. The incident, which took place on Friday, saw the young legislator embroiled in a heated verbal spat with a police sub-inspector.

Rohit Pawar, who is the grandnephew of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, had arrived at the station alongside fellow party MLA Jitendra Awhad to inquire about a party worker who was injured in a clash at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan. The clash reportedly erupted between Awhad’s supporters and those aligned with BJP legislator Gopichand Padalkar on Thursday.

Following the skirmish, members from both camps were detained within the Vidhan Bhavan premises and subsequently handed over to the police for further proceedings.

According to sources, during his visit, Rohit Pawar was caught on camera shouting at a sub-inspector in Marathi, allegedly saying, “Awaaz kami theva, haat udel tar shikavto mi kasa asta te” - loosely translated to, “Lower your voice. If you raise your hand, I’ll teach you a lesson.”

In response to a complaint filed regarding the incident, Mumbai police have booked Rohit Pawar under relevant sections for preventing a public servant from performing his lawful duties. The official confirmed that investigations are underway and further action will be taken as per legal provisions.

The episode has sparked political ripples across the state, with the ruling and opposition parties trading barbs over the conduct of elected representatives within and outside legislative premises.
