Media Release
Bengaluru, Jul 26: Step back to 1985. Amidst the charm of Bengaluru, Abaran opened its doors on M G Road, bringing fine jewellery to the city. Forty years later, the iconic M G Road store still has its loyal customer base and a story that spans four generations.
"For us, 40 years here means the world," says Dr Pratap Madhukar Kamath, managing director, Abaran. "My father took a leap of faith, moving from Udupi to Bengaluru to open this branch. Today, we are the longest-standing jewellery house on M G Road, and to see my daughter Sanyukta stepping into the business is incredibly fulfilling."

New chapter
Sanyukta, just returned from her studies in the United States, represents a new chapter for the brand, one that balances heritage with a focus on contemporary tastes. "Indian jewellery is not just ornamental," she says. "It carries our history, mythology and craftsmanship. The challenge today is how we present it. My generation loves tradition, but we want it in a language that speaks to us, something sacred yet stylish. That is what excites me building a bridge between what is timeless and what feels relevant."
Pratap has seen the jewellery-buying landscape transform first-hand. "When I joined the business 25 years ago, families would choose one design for everyone, such as for daughters, daughters-in-law and sisters. Today, every woman wants something uniquely hers, and rightly so. Our focus on individuality, without losing the essence of our craftsmanship, is what keeps us relevant.'
Legacy of trust, craftsmanship
Trust is something Pratap has valued most. "Back then, there was no hallmarking or certification, just faith. People knew they get honest value here, and that trust carried us forward," says Pratap. It is a legacy that extends beyond jewellery - Abaran is also India's only jewellery house to have partnered with Rolex, a feat Pratap calls one of his proudest milestones.
40-year celebration
For this milestone year, Abaran is celebrating with a special week-long event, offering 40 per cent off on making charges from July 25-31, at the MG Road showroom. "It is our way of saying thank you to the generations who have trusted and grown with other cities, while staying true to what makes Abaran special, which is our designs, our quality and our service.
"We have an incredible legacy thanks to my grandfather and my father. Now, it is our privilege to show people how Indian designs, especially our diamond and traditional pieces, can work beautifully with contemporary style. It is about inspiring customers, not just selling to them", says Sanyukta.
Four decades on MG Road, and Abaran is more than a jewellery store - it is a name woven into family histories, celebrations and heirlooms that outlive trends. As Abaran steps into the fifth decade, it is clear that its jewellery will continue to shine. Its story of trust, tradition and now a touch of modern appeal, makes it stand apart.
