'Looteri Dulhan' with eight husbands nabbed in Nagpur

Daijiworld Media Network – Nagpur

Nagpur, Aug 1: In a sensational case from Nagpur, Maharashtra, police have arrested a woman identified as Sameera Fatima, who allegedly married eight men over 15 years and extorted lakhs of rupees from them. The accused, reportedly on the hunt for her ninth victim, was apprehended at a tea shop in the city on July 29.

Police said Sameera, a well-educated woman and a teacher by profession, operated as part of a gang that targeted wealthy, married Muslim men. Her modus operandi involved using matrimonial websites and Facebook to connect with victims. She would introduce herself as a helpless divorcee with a child, sharing emotional stories over WhatsApp and Facebook calls to earn sympathy and trust.

Once married, she would allegedly blackmail her husbands, demanding large sums of money. Investigations revealed that she extorted as much as Rs 50 lac from one victim and Rs 15 lakh from another through cash and bank transfers. Reports also suggest that senior officers from the Reserve Bank were among those duped.

Police stated that in one previous case, she managed to evade arrest by falsely claiming pregnancy. However, her arrest on July 29 has brought her long trail of fraud to a halt — for now.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to identify the full extent of the racket and her accomplices.
