Panaji, Aug 6: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has declared that the Goa government is striving to secure national recognition for tiatr, the state’s cherished theatrical art form that has already reached audiences in 28 countries.
"Goa University is actively researching tiatr, and we are pushing for it to be recognised at the national level," Sawant stated.
On cultural infrastructure, the CM announced that the work order for renovating Margao's Ravindra Bhavan will be issued within a week. Similar upgrades are in the pipeline for Ravindra Bhavans in Curchorem, Sanquelim, Canacona, and Vasco.
In a noteworthy development, Sawant revealed that the State has acquired land in Ayodhya to construct a ‘Ram Bhavan’, which will serve as accommodation for Goan pilgrims. "Starting next year, Goans visiting Ayodhya will be able to stay there at 50% of the actual cost," he said. Plans are also being drawn up to establish a similar Goa Bhavan in Velankanni.
Turning to fiscal reforms, the Chief Minister said that hologram stickers will soon be introduced on all Goa-made liquor bottles to check the sale of illegal alcohol and boost transparency in the excise system. "The tender process is underway, and implementation will begin in two to three months," he noted, warning of strict action against violators.
Sawant also highlighted major infrastructure developments, stating that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is executing projects worth Rs 480 crore, including the new IPHB building, Phase II of Joggers Park in Chicalim, and the Directorate of Higher Education building. Additional works worth Rs 206 crore, including the Ports Department building, are also progressing.
