Satara forest department arrests two for electrocution hunting of wild boar

Satara, Aug 10: The Satara forest department arrested two men for hunting a wild boar by passing electricity through a wired fence in Mhasoba area.

The accused have been identified as Pankaj Ganpati Ghorpade (40) and Mahesh Maruti Padwal (26), both residents of Bharatgaonwadi in Satara district. The forest officials seized the dead boar and the tools used for the illegal hunt.

Range Forest Officer Sandeep Jopale said, "During our raid, it was found that the accused used electric shock supplied through fencing to kill the wild boar. Upon interrogation, they admitted to the crime and were arrested under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972."

The operation was conducted by Range Forest Officer Sandeep Jopale, Forest Ranger Sunil Shinde, Forest Guard Abhijit Kumbhar, Mukesh Raulkar, Suhas Kakade, and Driver Santosh Dalvi, under the guidance of Deputy Conservator of Forests Amol Satpute and Assistant Conservator of Forests Pradeep Raundhal.
