Puttur, Aug 10: In a breakthrough in a temple theft case, Puttur Town police have arrested a man accused of stealing a copper bell weighing approximately 10 kilos and worth around Rs 8,000.
As per police sources, the case was registered on July 26, under Crime No. 63/2025, invoking Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. Based on the investigation, the accused, identified as Sanshuddin alias Sanshu (50), a resident of Kabaka in Puttur, was taken into custody.

Police revealed that Sanshuddin is a habitual offender. He was earlier booked in Crime No. 83/2004 under IPC Sections 454 (house-breaking) and 380 (theft) at the same station. His repeat offence has raised concern among local residents and law enforcement alike.
The arrest came after meticulous tracking by local police teams, who acted swiftly upon gathering leads. Authorities believe his previous criminal history played a key role in his identification.
Investigations are still ongoing, and police are probing whether the accused is involved in similar thefts in the region.
