Panaji, Aug 20: Suleman Mohammed Khan, popularly known as Siddique, who has been accused in multiple land grab cases, has approached the Goa High Court challenging his arrest in four FIRs registered against him at Mapusa, Valpoi and Old Goa police stations.

In his petition, Siddique has sought a declaration that his arrest and subsequent custody were illegal, and has prayed for his immediate release. He argued that there was no prima facie evidence justifying the necessity of his continued detention.

The latest FIR against him pertains to alleged land grabbing and escape from custody. Through his lawyer, Advocate Sahil Sardessai, Siddique submitted that his arrest violated the constitutional mandate under Article 22 (1) as well as his statutory rights. He alleged that the police failed to communicate the grounds of arrest, thereby breaching legal safeguards.

The 54-year-old further sought quashing of the remand orders passed in connection with all four FIRs registered against him between 2020 and 2024. He contended that his continued custody amounted to a gross violation of law.

The matter is expected to come up for hearing in the High Court soon.
