Mumbai, Sep 3: Lokah chapter 1 Chandra, produced by Dulquer Salmaan, has emerged as the Manjummel Boys of 2025, turning into a blockbuster despite its minimal promotions. strong word-of-mouth has propelled the film’s box office run.
The Malayalam superhero film, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, opened at Rs 2.7 cr on Thursday and peaked at Rs 10 cr on Sunday. It collected Rs 7.2 cr on Monday and Rs 7.35 cr on Tuesday. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s total stands at Rs 38.95 cr, comfortably surpassing its breakeven mark, with its budget estimated between Rs 30-33 cr.
On Tuesday, the film reported an overall occupancy of 52.41% in Malayalam, while its Telugu version registered 22.53%. The Tamil version continues with limited screenings. The film, which released across 649 shows in India, expanded rapidly over the weekend, with Tuesday alone witnessing 574 Telugu shows and 1,236 Malayalam shows. A Hindi dubbed version is slated to release this week.
In contrast, Param Sundari starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor has slowed down after opening at Rs 7.25 cr. On Tuesday, the film managed Rs 4.25 cr, bringing its six-day total to Rs 34.25 cr against a reported Rs 60 cr budget. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Maddock Films, the film released in nearly 4,900 shows nationwide.
Directed by Dominic Arun under Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films banner, Lokah chapter 1 marks the beginning of a cinematic universe. The film introduces Kalyani Priyadarshan as a female superhero and features Sandy, Arun Kurian, and Premalu fame Naslen. It has already become the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025, after Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan and Mohanlal’s Thudarum.
The success of Lokah surpasses earlier Malayalam sleeper hits Manjummel Boys and Premalu. Manjummel Boys, which opened at Rs 3.9 cr, earned Rs 25 cr in six days and went on to gross Rs 240.5 cr worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. Premalu, made on a Rs 10 cr budget, collected Rs 12 cr in six days and eventually earned Rs 131.18 worldwide.
With its impressive trajectory, Lokah chapter 1 seems poised to create new records for the Malayalam film industry.
