Toddler dies as ambulance stuck for hours on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway

Mumbai, Sep 19: A 16-month-old boy died on Thursday after the ambulance carrying him was trapped for over five hours in a massive traffic jam on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

The gridlock was caused by ongoing construction on the Thane-Ghodbunder Road, which connects to the highway. To ease congestion in Thane city, the stretch towards Thane had been closed from 6 am to 9 pm, leading to a long queue of vehicles on the National Highway.

The child, who had suffered severe pelvic injuries, was undergoing treatment at Galaxy Hospital in Chinchoti, Naigaon. Doctors advised his family to urgently shift him to a Mumbai hospital for advanced care. However, the prolonged delay prevented timely treatment, and he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

A similar incident occurred in July when a woman, Chhaya Kaushik, died after being stuck in a traffic jam on the same highway. She was being taken to Mumbai from Palghar for treatment after a tree fell on her, but she died before receiving medical attention.
