Beltangady, Sep 20: The Beltangady court has sentenced Umesh Gowda, accused in a case of snatching a woman’s gold Mangalasutra chain at Koyyur, to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
On December 9, 2024, at Pambelu in Koyyur village, the accused Umesh Gowda snatched and broke the gold chain from the neck of a woman who was walking on the road and fled with it. A case was registered at Beltangady police station, and the accused was arrested the same day.

Investigating officer, Beltangady police inspector Subbapur Math, submitted the charge sheet to the court. The case was registered under various sections, and the charges were proven in the Beltangady court. On September 19, after conducting the trial, presiding judge Sandesh of the Beltangady court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000. In default of payment of fine, the accused will have to undergo six months of imprisonment.
The spot mahazar was conducted by PSI Muralidhar Naik, while ASI Kulajyoti Tilak assisted in the investigation. Court staff member Satish B R also extended cooperation by presenting witnesses before the court.
