Konkani Welfare Association Sion celebrates Monthi Fest

Mumbai, Sep 20: The Konkani Welfare Association, Sion, celebrated the Nativity feast of Mother Mary also known as Monthi Fest on September 13 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, located beside Sion station.

The special Mass was celebrated by chief guest Chancellor Fr Shavito Corea along with parish priests Fr Tony D’Souza, Fr Julius, Fr Salvador D’Souza, and Fr Aravind. Remembering Mother Nature, they offered thanksgiving prayers, performed the veneration of Mother Mary, and distributed new paddy sheaves to the devotees as a blessing.

The programme was held under the leadership of president Harry Siqueira. Sisters Shanti, Geetha, and Leesi, secretary Denis D’Souza, treasurer Molly Siqueira, Dulcine Furtado, vice-president Flavy D’Souza, Rita Aranha, Vanita D’Souza, Ryan D’Souza, Santana, Sylvester, Helen D’Souza, Peter D’Souza, Nolin, and Roshal were present and extended their support.

Leena Pinto delivered the festive message. Special invitees Henry D’Souza, Paul D’Souza, and George Pinto also participated in the celebration.

On the occasion, association members presented music, skits, and dances. Former president Dulcine Furtado proposed the vote of thanks.

Among the dignitaries present were Satish Shetty, proprietor of Lakshmi Caterers, retired Indian Navy officer Sampath Shetty, Kannada Sangha Sion president Praveen Bhat with treasurer Dayanand Moolya, secretaries Jayasheela Moolya and Umesh Shetty Kukkundoor, and entrepreneur Harish Shetty.

The celebration concluded with a traditional meal prepared using the new paddy, arranged by the members of the association.
