Bengaluru, Sep 24: A marital dispute between a newly married couple in Bengaluru has taken a serious turn, with the wife accusing her husband of being impotent and demanding Rs 2 crore as compensation (alimony). The husband, however, has lodged an FIR against her and her family.
The couple, who married just five months ago, are now on the verge of separation due to differences. The wife alleged that even months after marriage, her husband has not consummated the relationship. On this ground, she demanded alimony of Rs 2 crore.

According to sources, Praveen (name changed), a resident of Govindaraja Nagar in Bengaluru originally from Chikkamagaluru, married Chandana (name changed) from Tarikere, Chikkamagaluru, on May 5. The couple began living together at Saptagiri Palace Apartments in Bengaluru.
On the very first night, Praveen reportedly hesitated to consummate the marriage. Suspecting something amiss, Chandana insisted he undergo medical tests. Doctors, however, confirmed that Praveen was physically fit, clarifying that he only needed some time to overcome mental stress before beginning marital life. They advised the wife to cooperate.
On August 17, Chandana’s family members allegedly barged into Praveen’s residence at Govindaraja Nagar and assaulted him and his family. Following this, Praveen lodged a complaint with the local police station. The matter is under investigation.
As per the FIR, Praveen’s parents had arranged the marriage with Chandana earlier this year, and the wedding took place in May with grandeur. The bride’s family’s demands were all fulfilled, including organizing a housewarming ceremony in Bengaluru. On May 16, a ‘first night’ ceremony was held at Praveen’s aunt’s house, but due to mental and physical stress, the marriage was not consummated. In the following days too, Praveen reportedly avoided physical intimacy with Chandana.
This led to quarrels between the couple. Chandana allegedly humiliated Praveen, spreading claims within the family that he was “not a man” and “impotent.” On June 5, nearly 15 to 20 of Chandana’s relatives gathered at the house for a family panchayat, during which they allegedly demanded the transfer of property worth Rs 2 crore to Chandana. Praveen is said to have sought more time to resolve the matter.
Later, on August 17, when Praveen returned home after visiting a temple, Chandana and her relatives allegedly assaulted him again. He claimed they attacked him, destroyed household items, and even threw him out of his home. He has submitted CCTV footage and medical reports as evidence.
Praveen further stated that though he had explained to Chandana that work-related stress was preventing him from engaging in marital relations, she humiliated him with the backing of her family, subjected him to mental harassment, and demanded heavy compensation.
Based on his complaint, police have registered a case of domestic violence against Chandana and several members of her family.
