Mangaluru, Sep 26: The scouting and guiding movement is a dynamic initiative that equips young students with life skills, leadership qualities, and a spirit of service. Reflecting this vision, St Agnes School (CBSE), Bendore, Mangaluru, organised a two-day camp on September 23 and 25 for the guides, and a one-day camp on September 23 for the scouts, cubs, and bulbuls. Students from grades II to X, accompanied by their captains, actively participated in the camp held on the school campus. The programme created a vibrant atmosphere of learning, discipline, and camaraderie, leaving every participant enriched with values and experiences that extend far beyond the camp itself.





















































































The camp commenced with the hoisting of the guides flag by guide Riya Rajesh, in the presence of principal Sr Maria Sarika AC, along with the guide and scout captains, cub masters, and flock leaders. After officially declaring the camp open, principal Sr Maria Sarika exhorted the students to revere their teachers, cultivate leadership, and uphold discipline, while reminding them to translate the lessons of the camp into their daily lives with adaptability and a spirit of harmony
The scouts, guides, bulbuls, and cubs were organized into patrols and oriented on their respective roles and responsibilities, instilling a sense of discipline and accountability. For the scouts, cubs, and bulbuls, the day’s programme seamlessly blended learning with creativity and recreation. In the morning, an insightful session on health and hygiene was conducted by Shobha Jacintha, the school counsellor. Supported by demonstrations and interactive activities, the session provided practical guidance on adopting healthy habits. An energising song set a lively tone, followed by the introduction of varied clapping techniques that fostered rhythm, coordination, and enthusiasm. A hands-on cup art activity further encouraged imagination, focus, and fine motor skills.
The afternoon featured paper bag–making, conducted by teachers Reena Kumari and Tejakshi, which nurtured environmental responsibility alongside creativity. The day’s activities concluded with lively games that enhanced teamwork, agility, and strategic thinking, leaving the students enriched with both skills and joyful memories.
On the same day, the guides were taken to the Srimanthi Bai Government Museum at Bejai, beginning with a cleanliness drive that reflected their commitment to environmental conservation. This was followed by a guided tour, providing valuable exposure to history, culture, and science, while fostering respect for heritage. A session on compass navigation, mapping, and estimation was conducted by Mokshitha, who had represented India in the Jamboree held in South Korea. The session equipped the guides with essential orientation skills, after which they engaged in practical training under the guidance of the captains, practicing knots, lashing, pioneering, and first aid to enhance technical proficiency, problem-solving, and teamwork.
The day continued with a knots relay and hoops relay, reinforcing learning while fostering teamwork, and strategy. In the evening, the flag was lowered by guide Shriya B Kulal, as the patrols gathered with great respect, marking the conclusion of the day’s activities. This was followed by fun-filled competitions, including a flower petal arrangement. After dinner, the students enjoyed activities such as a memory game and action songs, thus concluding the day on a harmonious and cheerful note.
The following day began with a refreshing hike from the school entrance, passing through Shiva Bagh and the ESI Hospital, and culminating at the school campus under the guidance of the captains. The trek infused adventure and teamwork, as the students engaged in various activities along the route. After a brief rest, a craft session on honeycomb-making and paper bag making was conducted by Teachers Shobha and Tejakshi, fostering creativity and fine motor skills.
This was followed by inter-patrol competitions such as collage-making, a paper fashion show with a ramp walk, and wealth-from-waste displays. After a hearty lunch, the competitions resumed with spirited events including patrol songs, patriotic renditions, mad ads, and innovative claps, which kept the atmosphere vibrant and engaging.
The evening unfolded with the campfire programme, beginning with the guides bearing torches from four directions, each symbolising a meaningful message. The cultural segment opened with a solemn prayer service, followed by the much-anticipated welcome dance. The event was compered by guides Riya Rajesh and Shreya Lokesh, with guide Nidhi Nirvani extending a warm welcome and guide Andrea Joshi proposing the vote of thanks.
The occasion was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Pradeep Misquith, the vice president of the PTA, along with principal Sr Maria Sarika AC, PTA ex-officio member Liston Derick D’Souza, secretary Tr Neesha, associate secretary Reena Ranjith, PTA member Santhosh D’Souza, and the parents of the students.
The campfire programme continued with a series of captivating performances, including a moral skit, a comedy skit, and patriotic songs, which enthralled the audience. The students further showcased their talents through a thought-provoking mime on mobile addiction, along with vibrant folk, lively happy, and graceful fusion dances. In his address, the chief guest emphasised the importance of leadership, urged the students to uphold enduring values, and extended gratitude to the principal and management for providing such an opportunity. He also lauded the students for delivering commendable performances of high standard within a limited timeframe. The programme culminated in an energetic mass dance around the campfire, with all patrols participating enthusiastically.
A sumptuous meal followed, giving everyone a chance to unwind and reflect on the day’s experiences. Before retiring for the night, all participants were encouraged to record their thoughts and reflections in their reports, ensuring they captured their learning and growth during the camp.
The following day commenced with a rejuvenating yoga session. The patrols assembled in full uniform for a kit inspection, followed by an all-faith prayer led by the guide captains. A Shramadhan activity was conducted, allowing the guides to reflect on the value of service. The day concluded with the prize distribution and reflections shared by the six patrol guides, who expressed their gratitude to sister for providing such a valuable opportunity. Principal Sr Maria Sarika commended the guides for their spirited participation and praised their teamwork and leadership abilities. The camp activities were thoughtfully designed to cultivate leadership qualities and strengthen collaborative skills. Overall, it proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for the scouts, guides, cubs, and bulbuls of St Agnes School (CBSE).
