Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 9: The hallowed portals of St Agnes College (Autonomous) resonated with nostalgia and joy as the St Agnes Alumni Association hosted its annual alumni gathering ‘Agnesian Day at Home’ on Sunday, February 8. The event served as a vibrant platform for the Agnesian Alumnae Association to celebrate the achievements of its former students and strengthen the bond between the institution and its global network of graduates. Around 220 alumni from across various decades returned to their alma mater, bridging the gap between the past and the present and proving that while time moves on, the "Agnesian spirit" remains timeless.

The program commenced with a soulful prayer song led by Marrilyn and group, setting a serene tone for the day's festivities. Sr Dr M Venissa AC, the principal, delivered a warm welcome address, inviting the alumni to immerse themselves in a fun-filled day. She emphasised the importance of staying connected to their alma mater, reminding the gathering that the doors of St Agnes are always open to its former students. The event was anchored by Lavina Aranha, who served as the master of ceremonies.

The chief guest for the occasion was Dr Lavina Noronha, the renowned director of Ave Maria Palliative Care and a proud alumna. For her exemplary work in the field of social service, she was formally honoured by the principal, Sr Dr M Venissa AC, Marjorie Texeira, vice president of the St Agnes College Alumni Association, Geanette D'Souza and Anusha Noronha, the office bearers. In her moving address, Dr Noronha shared the journey of establishing her palliative care centre, crediting her alma mater for providing the foundation of compassion and resilience that shaped her career and life today.

The day featured a series of high-energy cultural performances that showcased the diversity of the Agnesian community. The audience was enthralled by a performance by Sushravya U, a Golden Book of World Record holder; she was formally honoured by the Alumnae Association for her historic achievement. Manipuri students of the college added a vibrant touch to the day with a traditional dance featuring the culture of the Kuki tribe. Proving that age is just a number, a group of alumni led by Geanette D'Souza took to the stage, delivering a spirited dance performance that drew loud cheers from the crowd.

The atmosphere remained electric as Amitha conducted a series of engaging games, bringing out the competitive yet friendly spirit of the attendees. The "Day at Home" concluded with a sense of fulfilment, as the 220-strong gathering spent the afternoon rekindling old friendships and sharing stories over a celebratory lunch.
