Mumbai, Sep 28: A 55-year-old man, Abtullah Baig, was injured in a shooting incident early Sunday morning in Malad East, after an altercation with a longtime acquaintance turned violent. The incident took place around 5:30 a.m. at Obaid Compound in Sanjay Nagar.

According to police, Baig and the accused were sitting together when the acquaintance suddenly pulled out a pistol and fired a shot near Baig’s ear before fleeing the scene. The bullet grazed Baig below his ear, causing a serious injury.

Baig was initially taken to DNA Hospital nearby and later shifted to JJ Hospital for advanced treatment. Doctors have confirmed that his condition is stable and he is currently recuperating.

Known Each Other for 20 Years

Investigators revealed that Baig and the shooter had known each other for over two decades. On the night of the incident, the two had reportedly been drinking together. Police are probing whether a drunken argument may have led to the shooting.

An empty cartridge was recovered from the spot, and CCTV footage from the area captured the assailant fleeing alone. However, officials say they will examine whether any accomplices were involved.

Motive Still Unclear

The exact motive behind the attack remains unknown. "We are exploring all angles, including a possible personal dispute or financial issue," said an official from the local police station.

An FIR under Section 307 (attempt to commit murder) of the Indian Penal Code will be registered, police confirmed.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to trace the accused and uncover the circumstances that led to the sudden act of violence.
