Bantwal, Oct 3: In a first-of-its-kind action in Dakshina Kannada district, police seized a house allegedly used as an illegal slaughterhouse near Maripalla in Pady, under Bantwal rural police station limits.

The house belonging to Hasanabba, a resident of Pady in Pudu village, was confiscated and taken over by the government after it was found to be used for running an illegal slaughterhouse.

A case had been registered against Hasanabba under Bantwal rural police station crime number 123/2025, sections 303 BNS, 4, 7, 12 of the Cow Protection Act and section 11(D) of the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act. He was arrested and produced before the ACJM and JMFC court.

Police said Hasanabba has a history of similar offences. In 2017, a case was registered against him under IPC section 379 along with provisions of the Cow Protection Act and the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act. Again in 2018, another case was filed under similar sections. Based on these repeated violations, Bantwal police had recommended action to the assistant commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate of Mangaluru.

Acting on the police report, the Mangaluru assistant commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate ordered the seizure of the property under sections 8(4) and 8(5) of the Karnataka Prevention and Protection of Cattle Act, 2020. Accordingly, on September 25, under case number MAG/SR 44/2025, the house numbers 6-54 and 6-54(1) in Pady, Maripalla, falling under Pudu gram panchayat limits, were seized and handed over to the government.

District SP informed the media that this is the first instance in Dakshina Kannada where a house used for running an illegal slaughterhouse has been seized.
