Karnataka govt approves 12 menstrual leaves a year for women employees

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 10: In a progressive move aimed at promoting women’s health and workplace equality, the Karnataka government has approved menstrual leave for women employees, allowing them up to 12 sanctioned leaves annually.

Labour minister Santosh Lad announced the decision, calling it a landmark step toward ensuring dignity and flexibility for working women. “We have approved menstrual leave for women. It is one of the most progressive policies introduced by our government. Women can avail 12 sanctioned leaves in a year — either once a month or as they prefer according to their menstrual cycle,” he said.

The minister noted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to understanding and supporting the multiple responsibilities women shoulder both at work and home. “A woman plays many roles — as a mother, wife, homemaker, and professional. We recognise how challenging it is to balance these roles, and this policy is a step towards easing that burden,” he added.

Calling it “a feather in the cap of a progressive government,” Lad said the policy demonstrates the administration’s empathy toward women’s welfare and its effort to build a more inclusive work environment.

Responding to questions on a possible cabinet reshuffle, the minister said the decision rests with the party high command, the chief minister, and the deputy chief minister.

The move has been widely welcomed as a compassionate measure that recognises women’s health needs while setting a positive precedent for workplace reforms in the state.

This is an true example of progressiveness, the country moves forward when educated secular people are in power just like europe but if the power falls into the hands of illiterate fascists/extremists then the country will go back to stone age like Pakistan.

A very good initiative by the Karnataka Government. This initiative not only supports women’s health and well-being but also sets an example for other states and organizations to follow. A society grows stronger when it values both productivity and humanity. 👏💪
