Srinivas University hosts discourse on Indian knowledge systems at Mukka campus

Mangaluru, Oct 11: Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology (SUIET) Mukka and Srinivas University Institute of Allied Health Sciences (SIAHS) in collaboration with ISKCON Sri Jagannath Mandir, Kudupu Katte, organised a discourse on Indian knowledge systems at the SUIET Mukka Campus.

The event was graced by the chief guest, Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji, a renowned speaker, orator, social media celebrity, spiritual leader, TEDx speaker and vice president of ISKCON Dwaraka, New Delhi. Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji inaugurated the programme with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

The event was presided over by Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde, dean of SUIET Mukka. Distinguished guests on the dais included Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy (dean, SIAHS Mukka), Dr Vanamali Govinda Das Ji (ISKCON Mangaluru), and Prof Shrinath Rao K, the convenor of the programme.

In his inaugural address, Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji emphasised the profound relevance of Indian knowledge systems in contemporary society. He stated that true knowledge leads to happiness and holistic growth, underscoring the importance of nurturing not just Intelligence Quotient (IQ), but also Emotional Quotient (EQ) and Spiritual Quotient (SQ).

He observed that humans are now the most distracted species on the planet, grappling with a loss of focus, patience and understanding. Citing research, he noted that the attention span of today’s Indian youth has declined to just eight seconds - less than that of a goldfish - largely due to excessive gadget use. He urged students to utilise technology responsibly and for the betterment of society and the nation.

Speaking on the cultural and scientific contributions of India, Amogh Lila Das Ji highlighted Sanskrit as a remarkable language representing the rich heritage of Bharat. He remarked that Sanskrit is increasingly being explored in the domain of computing and data science. He elaborated on India’s global contributions in fields such as Vedic Mathematics, Ayurveda, Astrology, and traditional medicine.

Further, Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji shed light on India’s rich legacy in military science, citing Kaliyar Pattu, the mother of all martial arts, which later evolved into disciplines like Kung Fu and Karate in China. He stressed that the Indian knowledge systems instil strong values, clarity of thought, memory retention, depth of knowledge that contribute to the outstanding global performance of Indian professionals. Calling India the emerging Vishwa Guru, Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji urged the youth to stay focused on their academic and professional pursuits and contribute to the nation’s development.

Following his speech, Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji engaged in an interactive session with students and faculty, addressing their queries and sharing insights.

The event also witnessed the presence of Sri Sutapa Prabhu (member, managing committee, ISKCON Kudupu, Mangaluru), Sri Ashraya Narayana Prabhu (ISKCON Dwaraka, New Delhi), Prof Thrivikram Prabhu (NSS coordinator), heads of departments, faculty members, staff and students of SUIET and SIAHS.

The programme commenced with a welcome and keynote address by Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde (dean, SUIET Mukka). Convenor of the programme Prof Shrinath Rao K introduced the chief guest and resource person Amogh Lila Das Prabhu Ji and Dr Vanamali Govind Das Ji. Prof Rohan Fernandes served as the master of ceremonies and delivered the vote of thanks. The invocation was performed by Sumanth Shrikanth Bhat. Prasadam was distributed to all attendees at the conclusion of the event.
