Bengaluru, Oct 11: A 22-year-old man from Karnataka has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold and cash worth Rs 47 lac from his relative’s residence to fund his wedding expenses.

The accused, Shreyas, had been in a relationship with a woman for four years. Believing he needed a large sum of money to arrange their marriage, he allegedly devised a plan to burgle the home of his relative, Harish, who also owns the shop where Shreyas worked.

Knowing that cash and gold jewellery were kept in the house, Shreyas decided to carry out the theft to finance his wedding. On September 15, he reportedly broke into Harish’s residence and stole the valuables.

Following a complaint lodged by the homeowner, the Hebbagodi police in Bengaluru launched an investigation and arrested Shreyas.

The police recovered 416 grams of gold and Rs 3.46 lac in cash, with the total value of the stolen property estimated at around Rs 47 lac.
