Puttur, Oct 12: A second-grade student who was hospitalised following a honeybee attack succumbed to her injuries on October 11, while another student continues to receive treatment at the hospital. A local resident who was stung while rushing to rescue them is recovering.
The deceased has been identified as Jisha (7), daughter of Kiran from Kootelu, Padnur village, and a student of Class 2 at Tenkila Vivekananda Kannada Medium School. Her cousin, Pratyush (10), son of Kiran’s brother Kishore and a Class 5 student of the same school, sustained serious injuries and is under treatment.

The incident occurred on October 10 evening when the two children alighted from their school vehicle near Sediyapu Kootelu and were walking home. Suddenly, a swarm of honeybees attacked them. Hearing their cries, a local resident, Narayan (40), rushed to their rescue, but the bees stung him as well.
