Mangaluru: Moving car gutted in fire near Kavoor temple; driver escapes unhurt

Mangaluru, Oct 12: A car caught fire while in motion and was completely gutted near the Mahalingeshwara Temple in Kavoor late on Friday night. The driver escaped unharmed.

The incident occurred when smoke was noticed emanating from the bonnet of the car that was heading from Kavoor towards Konchadi. The driver, identified as Shivananda from Sujigudde, immediately stopped the vehicle by the roadside. Moments later, the car burst into flames.

The Kadri fire station was alerted, and fire personnel rushed to the spot and carried out firefighting operations. However, by the time they arrived, the vehicle had already been almost completely destroyed.

The car, a 2008 model Volkswagen, was being driven by Shivananda, who was alone at the time of the incident. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 4 to 5 lac.
