Raipur, Oct 12: In a significant blow to Maoist activities in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bastar region, security forces arrested eight active Maoists during a joint operation in Bijapur district on Sunday.
The operation was conducted by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), personnel from Basaguda Police Station, and the 168th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The arrests took place near Polampalli, along the Putkel–Polampalli route, following actionable intelligence.

Authorities seized a cache of explosives and Maoist propaganda material, including:
• Tiffin bombs
• Detonators
• Cordtex wire
• Safety fuses and batteries
• Earth-digging tools
• Banners with anti-government slogans
Among those arrested, three were on the state’s wanted list with bounties:
• Kosa Sodi (Rs 2 lac reward)
• Jai Singh Madvi and Madkam Anda (Rs 50,000 each), both members of the Kamalapur RPC's Chetna Natya Manch (CNM), the cultural wing of the Maoist organisation.
The remaining five — Sodi Hidma, Muchaki Budhra alias Bhadra, Madvi Raju, Madvi Hidma, and Deva Madvi — were affiliated with various militia and logistical branches of the banned CPI (Maoist).
All arrested individuals are residents of Kamalapur Jonnaguda Para and Gottum Para villages. Following their capture, legal proceedings were initiated at Basaguda Police Station and the accused were remanded to judicial custody.
Officials described the arrests as a key success in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the Maoist-affected Bastar zone. The region has long been at the center of left-wing extremism, with security forces frequently targeted by Maoist ambushes and IED attacks.
Operations like these are critical not just in eliminating active threats but also in gathering vital intelligence to dismantle Maoist infrastructure and prevent future insurgent actions.
