Sullia: Accused on the run for 35 years arrested

Sullia, Oct 14: The police have arrested a 73-year-old man who had been absconding for 35 years in connection with a serious assault case in Aletty village, Sullia taluk.

The case pertains to an incident in 1990 in Nagapattana, Aletty, where the accused, Balan of Natti house, Thrissur district, Kerala, allegedly attacked two individuals, Shantappa and Subbaiah, with a sword, causing severe head injuries.

 

The case was registered at Sullia police station under FIR No. 64/1990 under Sections 143, 147, 148, 324, 326, 506 read with 149 of the IPC.

The accused had failed to appear before the competent court and had been evading the law since the issuance of LPC 02/2002. Balan was apprehended in Thrissur, Kerala, and produced before the JMFC Court, Sullia, on October 13, 2025. The court ordered judicial custody of the accused.
