Udupi: Police seize large quantity of firecrackers stored illegally across district

Udupi, Oct 16: Police in Udupi district conducted raids at multiple locations and seized a large quantity of firecrackers that were being stored illegally and unsafely.

The raids were carried out in several police station limits, including Miyaru under Karkala Town police station, Kunjalu under Brahmavar police station, and Thekkatte under Kota police station. Substantial quantities of firecrackers were confiscated during the operations.

The operations followed information that certain traders and individuals were illegally purchasing and stockpiling firecrackers ahead of the Deepavali festival.

Udupi superintendent of police Hariram Shankar said the seized firecrackers will be safely stored under proper authorization and later destroyed as per procedure.

Cases have been registered at the respective police stations, and further investigations are underway.
