Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS): Three days before the civic polls, Mumbai police Monday arrested a man with seven firearms and 12 live rounds of ammunition from a railway terminus in central Mumbai, police said.
"We laid a trap near Kurla Railway Terminus after we were tipped off about this man. The accused, identified as Javed Aalam Mustafa Shabbir, was spotted waiting with the weapons," Additional Police Commissioner (Special Branch) Sunil Paraskar told reporters here.
"The suspect was found in possession of six revolvers and a pistol with 'US-made' marks on them. However, the weapons appear to have been made either in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh," he added.
According to a photo identification recovered from him, Shabbir is from Patna in Bihar. "But his driving license carried Mahalaxmi in central Mumbai as his address," Paraskar said.
According to police, Shabbir, 36, worked at the HDFC bank here with a salary of Rs.15,000 per month.
"He claimed he had left the job due to some personal and family problems and now has been staying in Patna," Paraskar said.
"We are interrogating him to ascertain who the receiver of the weapons was," he added.
