Moodbidri, Oct 23: A postcard campaign was organised on Thursday by the Advocates’ Association, Municipality, Moodbidri Press Club, and local citizens, urging the state government to establish a High Court bench in Mangaluru.
Municipality president Jayshree Keshav inaugurated the campaign by dropping the first postcard into the collection box. Speaking at the event, senior lawyer and founder president of the Advocates’ Association, M Bahubali Prasad, said, “Mangaluru plays a vital role among the rapidly growing cities along the coast. About 10 lac people from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru districts face difficulties in accessing legal services. Establishing a High Court bench in Mangaluru has been a long-standing demand, which has gained significant momentum over the past two years.”

The campaign aims to draw attention to the government and chief justice about the need for a bench in Mangaluru. Advocates, civic leaders, and residents have come together to support the initiative.
On behalf of the public, Vishu Kumar highlighted the struggles faced by citizens, stating, “Thousands of cases are pending, and people currently have to travel to Bengaluru for hearings. A High Court bench in Mangaluru would make legal processes more accessible and convenient for the people.”
The event was attended by Praveen Lobo, secretary of the High Court Bench Struggle Committee, Harish P, president of the Advocates’ Association, Jayaprakash, vice president of the Municipality Nagaraj Poojary, members Jossy Menezes, B Seetharam Acharya, president of the Taluk Journalists Association, and several others.
Citizens shared personal experiences, with one participant saying, “For the past 48 years, my family has had to travel to Bengaluru for legal matters, which is very challenging. Establishing a High Court bench in Mangaluru would greatly reduce the burden on people and ease legal access.”
The postcard campaign reflects a strong collective push by citizens, lawyers, and civic organizations to press the government for a High Court bench in Mangaluru, aiming to bring justice closer to the people of the coastal districts.
