Expert PU College celebrates Deepavali with cultural fervor

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 25: Expert PU College, Valachil, Mangaluru, celebrated Deepavali with grandeur, blending tradition and festivity through cultural performances, competitions, and inspirational addresses.

The celebrations included traditional rituals, goodudeepa making, and a parade showcasing traditional attire. Students and staff presented vibrant performances, including Kunitha Bajane, capturing the spirit of the festival.

Captain Brijesh Chowta A, MP for Dakshina Kannada, was the chief guest at the event.

In his address, Capt Chowta lauded the district’s rich cultural heritage and praised the leadership of professor Narendra L Nayak, chairman of the institution, for establishing Expert as a “centre of excellence.”

Describing Dakshina Kannada as “God’s own country in the truest sense,” Capt Chowta said the region’s unique Deepavali traditions - lighting lamps, worshipping deities, and venerating mothers - reflect the essence of Sanatana Dharma. “The true Indian spirit exists on this land,” he remarked, urging the 2,551 students in attendance to take pride in their roots and speak positively about the region’s contributions to education, banking, healthcare, and cuisine.

Drawing from his service in the Indian Army, Capt Chowta emphasised the importance of perseverance, patience, and purity of intention. Quoting Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, he reminded students that success often stems from collective effort and the right circumstances, not just individual talent. “With unity and commitment, we can transform India into a developed nation.”

During the presidential address, Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson of Expert Group of Institutions, said “To give light to someone’s life, one must burn like a lamp,” encouraging students to work with dedication and humility. “A lamp that glows too brightly extinguishes early; likewise, one who works with arrogance will not last long. Let your glow be steady and purposeful.” Quoting saint-poet Kabirdas, she added, “If one looks for faults, one will find them — but seeking the good always leads to success.”

The event was attended by Ankush N Nayak, director – Information technology; architect Deepika A Nayak; Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal; Subramanya Udupa, vice principal (academics); and Druthi V Hegde, vice principal (administration); Gurudatta N, coaching head ; Dr Vinaya Chandra, programme director.
