Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: Nangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has been honoured with the ‘Legend (Emerging) Award’ in the environment improvement category at the 19th Exceed Environment, CSR & HR Awards 2025. The awards are supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEF&CC).
This award recognizes MRPL’s strong commitment to protecting the environment and its continuous efforts to reduce its ecological impact while achieving operational excellence. MRPL remains focused on adopting sustainable practices across all its operations to help create a greener and cleaner future.
Prasanna Kumar T, general manager (HSE), received the award on behalf of Team MRPL at a ceremony held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on October 31. The award was presented by Dr Bhaskar Chatterjee, former secretary, government of India — known as the Father of CSR in India and chairman of the National Committee for Formulating Indian National Standards for ESG for the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Some of MRPL’s key environmental and sustainability initiatives include:
• Waste management: Diverting waste from landfills through alternative disposal methods and reusing ETP sludge within the refinery.
• Air quality improvement: Installing wet scrubber systems (WSS) to control emissions beyond compliance requirements and using cleaner fuel like RLNG.
• Water conservation: Utilizing treated city sewage water, recycling treated effluent using advanced technologies, and operating a desalination plant to reduce fresh water intake.
These initiatives have helped MRPL lead the way in environmental stewardship among its peers.
