Mangaluru, Nov 10: A 29-year-old civil engineer from Bengaluru, currently based in Puttur, has fallen prey to a cyber fraud involving a fake online trading platform, losing close to Rs 2 lac.

The victim, Akash K M, who works for a private firm, reported that he received a link from an unknown number on May 17, promising lucrative trading opportunities. Trusting the offer, he transferred Rs 1,95,670 between May 17 and May 29, hoping to earn profits.

However, after the operators of the so-called trading app stopped responding and failed to return his money, Akash realised he had been cheated.

He promptly reached out to the 1930 Cyber Helpline and filed a complaint. The Puttur Town police have registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
