Puttur, Nov 12: A serious road accident occurred on Tuesday evening at Polya curve on the Mani–Mysuru National Highway, when a car collided with a scooter, leaving the two-wheeler rider severely injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the collision was so strong that the scooter rider lost control and fell into a roadside ditch, sustaining serious head and arm injuries. The car, after the collision, reportedly skidded nearly 200 metres before plunging into another ditch.

Local residents immediately rushed to the scene and shifted the injured rider to a nearby hospital in Puttur, where his condition is said to be critical. The scooter is said to belong to a person named Shashikumar.

The car was reportedly driven by Mohammed Toufiq, a resident of Kabaka. Following the accident, he allegedly fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle at the scene. Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of intoxicants, though police said the truth will be confirmed only after investigation.

The Puttur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
