Udupi, Nov 14: The World Diabetes Day 2025 programme on the theme of 'Diabetes Across Life Stages' was organized by the CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital Group of Institutions on November 14 at LMH Multipurpose Auditorium.
Dr Deepa Rao, gynecologist and deputy director of the hospital, presiding over the event, highlighted the need for awareness of diabetes among the younger generation and stressed the importance of physical exercise as a means to stay healthy, not only from diabetes but also from conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and heart disease. “Without regular exercise, we begin to gain weight. Lack of physical activity can lead to hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease, and several other health issues. Adolescents should have at least 150 minutes of exercise every week. Physical activity also boosts cognitive function. During aerobic exercises, the heart rate rises even household chores count as aerobics. High-intensity workouts help burn fat effectively, staying active also builds confidence and self-esteem. Start with small steps and gradually increase your routine, choose exercises you enjoy, and consider joining a team sport. Along with aerobics, yoga is equally important,” she said.























Dr Akshatha addressed the importance of a healthy diet as part of a healthy lifestyle in the prevention and management of diabetes due to polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), a prevalent condition in young women.
A quiz competition was also organized for high school and PUC students of Udupi district, in which 30 teams from various educational Institutions participated. The final round of the quiz was conducted by Dr Vaibhav as its quiz master.
Role plays, mad-ad and mime show on the theme of diabetes by the students of CSI Lombard group of Institutions were performed to emphasize the importance of awareness and early detection of diabetes.
The event also included a free medical checkup camp and lab tests for diabetes screening at the mission hospital with physicians Dr Dhanajay, Dr Vaibhav for the general health checkup and Dr Abhinay for the eye checkup. Posters on diabetes were displayed at the hospital to create awareness of diabetes among the public.
The programme began with the prayer by the chaplain of the hospital Raichal T J. Dr Roshan Pais; principal Paramedical College welcomed the gathering.
The event was attended by Dr Dhanajay, administrative officer Deena Prabhavathi, operations manager Kavyashree Shetty, staff members, students, participants and others.
