Mangaluru, Nov 17:  In a major breakthrough, the Mangaluru police have apprehended the infamous thief “Itte Barpe Abubakkar,” wanted in over 40 theft cases across multiple states and districts.

Authorities recovered gold jewellery weighing 56.850 grams, valued at Rs 5,65,000, along with a stolen two-wheeler.

The case stems from a daring burglary between October 2 and 6, at a locked residence in Kuttur, under the Venoor police station jurisdiction. The stolen items included gold jewellery weighing a total of 149 grams, worth Rs 9,50,000.

The case was registered at Venoor police station as Crime No. 85/2025 under Sections 331(1), 331(4) and 305 of the B N S Act, 2023.

Following intensive investigations, Abubakkar, also known as Abdul Khader, aged 70 and a resident of Jokatte, Mangaluru, was arrested. From him, police recovered gold jewellery valued at around Rs 5,65,000 and a two-wheeler stolen from the Konaje police station area, worth Rs 60,000. He has been produced before the competent court for further proceedings.

Commenting on the operation, a senior police official said, “This arrest is a result of meticulous investigation and coordinated effort by multiple police units, both within the district and beyond.”

The manhunt and subsequent arrest were carried out under the guidance of Belthangady DySP Rohini C K, with a dedicated team comprising Belthangady circle inspectors led by B G Subbapura Mutta and officers from Venoor Police Station – sub-inspectors Akshay Dvagi and Oman N, ASIs Venkatesh Nayak and Bennichan, head constable Krishna, Dharmasthala police station head constable Prashanth, police constables Charan, Basavaraj and Mohan, MPIC Jayashree Poonjalakatte, and police constable Rajith – supported by Mangaluru district computer staff Sampath and Divakar, all of whom played pivotal roles in the operation.
