Bantwal, Nov 19: A young engineering student lost her life and another was left seriously injured after a collision between a car and a scooter at Kavalkatte in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Ananya (21), daughter of Sunil from Kadaba. She was riding the scooter at the time of the accident.
The pillion rider, Prithvi, a resident of Guruvayanakere, sustained severe injuries and has been rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she is undergoing treatment. Both were reportedly final-year engineering students at a Mangaluru college.

The accident occurred on the Bantwal–Belthangady National Highway, on the stretch leading from Kavalkatte to N C Road – a section known locally for its dangerous and accident-prone curve. Residents claim that several mishaps have occurred here in recent years owing to the treacherous bend.
The two students were said to be travelling from Belthangady to their college when their Honda Activa and a WagonR car collided at the notorious curve.
Punjalakatte sub-inspector Rajesh K V visited the spot and has registered a case.
