Mangaluru, Nov 20: Repair work on the main pipeline supplying water from Thumbe to Mangaluru was completed on Wednesday evening, and water supply will return to normal from Thursday, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner said in a press release.
Due to damage to the main pipeline, several areas, including Mangaladevi, Shaktinagar, Bendore, Pandeshwar and Jeppu, did not receive water on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, causing severe inconvenience to residents. Many were forced to rely on water tankers.

Emergency repair work was taken up on the 1100 mm diameter main pipeline that supplies water from the Thumbe (80 MLD) pumping station to the city. With repairs completed on Wednesday evening, supply will be restored on Thursday morning, the commissioner stated.
Meanwhile, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Bharath Shetty reportedly visited the spot and pulled up the corporation officials over the delay in completing the repair. They pointed out that a task that could have been completed within a day was prolonged to three days due to negligence. The delay left lakhs of residents without water, creating a summer-like crisis. They also criticised officials for failing to arrange tanker supply despite the severe shortage, adding that load-shedding further reduced water pressure, preventing supply to many households.
