Kaup, Nov 23: A man travelling in a private express bus from Mangaluru to Udupi died after falling out of the vehicle at Uchila on National Highway 66.

The deceased has been identified as Sakendra Poojary, 52, a resident of Kapu Padugrama and an employee of a hotel in Mangaluru.

When the bus reached Uchila, he stood near the front door preparing to alight. At that moment, the driver suddenly swerved the vehicle to the right in a negligent attempt to overtake another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, causing Sakendra to be thrown out through the door. He sustained severe head injuries after hitting the road divider.

Locals administered first aid, after which social worker Jalaluddin, also known as Jallu Uchila, and SDPI Uchila ambulance driver Hameed shifted him to the district hospital in Udupi. However, he had already breathed his last by then.

Padubidri police have registered a case against the bus driver for negligent driving.

Sakendra, who was unmarried, is survived by a brother and a sister.

Again the issue is not having a door. Even if there is one it will be kept open. If the door was closed, it wouldn't allow the passenger to fall on the road.
