Kaup, Nov 24: “Before commencing the construction of the proposed overpass bridge on the Katapady National Highway, officials have issued an alternative traffic route plan without taking the public and local residents into confidence or providing any prior information. Issuing such a sudden diversion plan is objectionable,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

Responding to the request from local residents to resolve the confusion surrounding the Katapady overpass work, a meeting was held at the Katapady Grama Panchayat auditorium with panchayat members and the public to discuss the matter, on November 24.

Vinay Kumar Sorake stated that of the Rs 3 cr sanctioned under the special grant based on his recommendation, Rs 1 cr has been earmarked for the development of the old road from Kallapu to Katapady, which could serve as an alternative route.

Residents from Katapady, Kote, Kurkalu, Shirva, and Manipur panchayat limits expressed concerns about the inconvenience and challenges posed by the diversion plan. After hearing their grievances, Vinay Kumar Sorake assured that he would lead a delegation to meet the deputy commissioner and concerned authorities on Tuesday. The delegation will present detailed inputs, highlight public concerns, and urge officials to design a more practical traffic diversion plan that takes local opinions into account.

Vinay Kumar Sorake further added that a public meeting with officials will be organised soon to provide clarity and address ongoing confusion.
