Karkala, Nov 25: The annual sports meet of Christ King Educational Institutions was held with much enthusiasm at the Gandhi Maidan in Karkala.
Assistant sub-inspector Shekhar Naik of Karkala Town police station, who arrived as the chief guest, received the guard of honour from the student athletes. Addressing the gathering, chief guest Shekhar Naik said, “Sports help students lead a disciplined and balanced life without succumbing to stress. From childhood, students must involve themselves in sports and lead a value-based life.”



National volleyball player Zakriya M from Karkala lit the sports torch. Addressing the gathering Zakriya M said, “Every student must understand the importance of sports, adopt it in their life, and bring glory to their school and the nation.”
Santosh Kumar Shetty, Karkala Youth Service officer and Physical Education teacher at Government High School, Hirgana, hoisted the sports flag. Speaking on the occasion, Santosh Kumar Shetty encouraged students to actively participate in sports to develop a competitive spirit, and said, “Sports help children develop a competitive spirit. Everyone should enthusiastically participate in this sports festival.”
Dr Sr Shalet Siqueira, student counsellor of Christ King Educational Institutions, received the introduction of participating athletes. The programme was presided over by Aveline Lewis, secretary of Christ King Education Trust.
The event also featured an attractive sports parade and sports torch procession by the students.
Student Keerthan D’Souza of I PUC Commerce welcomed the gathering. Ayesha Ruba of class 10 delivered the vote of thanks. English lecturer Pavana Dhanyaraj compered the programme. Physical Education directors Krishna Prasad, Prakash Naik, and Lavanya organized the sports meet.
PU College principal Lakshmi Narayana Kamath, vice principal Dr Prakash Bhat, High School headmistress Josna Snehalatha, Primary School headmaster Rudolf Kishore Lobo, and PTA presidents Dayananda (College), Sherita Noronha (High School), and Uday Ravi (Primary School) were also present.
