New Delhi, Nov 27: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, intensifying her campaign for the upcoming MCD by-elections, reaffirmed on Wednesday that her government will deliver on all key promises — including a monthly financial aid of Rs 2,500 and subsidised LPG cylinders for economically weaker women.
Speaking at a Swabhiman Sabha in Wazirpur Industrial Area in support of BJP candidate Veena Asija from Ashok Vihar, Gupta assured slum dwellers that her government is committed to providing permanent housing to families living in informal settlements.

Highlighting her administration’s focus on uplifting slum clusters, she said a dedicated budget of Rs 700 crore has been earmarked for their development. Through this fund, the government is establishing Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Atal Canteens, Basti Vikas Kendras, and upgrading essential civic infrastructure such as roads and drainage lines.
Gupta, addressing residents of the Jhuggi–Jhopdi clusters, said her government continues to draw inspiration from a poor-centric governance model. She criticised past administrations for treating slum dwellers as mere vote banks, failing to provide basic facilities like toilets, parks, proper roads, drainage systems, and permanent homes.
She further announced that the long-pending process of issuing new ration cards — stalled for nearly 15 years — will resume soon. Cards of ineligible beneficiaries will be cancelled, while genuine needy families will be issued fresh ones.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has initiated the cleaning of a 6.85 km trunk sewer line stretching from Jail Road to the Keshopur Sewage Treatment Plant. The project, expected to cost Rs 13 crore, aims to clear nearly 65% silt accumulation that has caused chronic drainage issues in localities including Virender Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Hari Nagar, and parts of Janakpuri.
