Udupi, Nov 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana organised at Udupi Sri Krishna Math, appealed to the citizens of the country to take a ‘New Resolve’ for the nation’s present and future. He emphasised that all people must commit to these nine resolutions.

He urged everyone to take nine pledges. The first resolution is to conserve water. The second is to plant trees and launch a tree-planting campaign in the name of one’s mother. The third resolution is that each individual must improve the life of at least one poor person. The fourth is to adopt Swadeshi and embrace the mantra of ‘Vocal for Local’. The fifth resolution is to practise natural farming. The sixth is to adopt a healthy lifestyle, reduce oil consumption, and use millets in daily meals. The seventh resolution is to adopt yoga and ensure that everyone becomes a yogi. The eighth resolution calls for supporting the preservation of manuscripts. The ninth resolution is to take a vow to visit at least 25 sacred pilgrimage centres in the country.

He said that every citizen must fulfil their duties to achieve the goals of Amrit Kaal by 2047. “Let us resolve for a developed Karnataka and a developed India,” he added.

Speaking in Kannada, the Prime Minister greeted the gathering with ‘Namaskara’ and chanted ‘Jai Shri Krishna’. He instructed SPG personnel to collect the photographs carried by people in the crowd, asking them to write their addresses on the back so that he could send a congratulatory letter in return.

He recalled Udupi as the karmabhoomi that showcased the good governance models of the Jan Sangh and BJP, remembering leaders such as V S Acharya. He congratulated Paryaya Puttige Math seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji for organising the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana, calling it a campaign of Sanatana culture that has deeply inspired him. He said the initiative connects the new generation with the Bhagavad Gita.

The Prime Minister also mentioned his presence in Ayodhya on November 25 during the installation of the dharma dhwaja atop the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, stating that countless devotees from Ayodhya to Udupi are filled with happiness. He recalled the long struggle behind the Ram Mandir movement.

Modi described Udupi, established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya, as a sacred confluence of Vedic studies, devotion to Lord Krishna, and service to lakhs of devotees through the tradition of Anna Prasada. He also highlighted the contributions of the Dasa tradition and the devotion of Kanakadasa.

He said the Bhagavad Gita carries the message of universal welfare—Sarvajana Sukhaaya, Sarvajana Hitaaya—which aligns with the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He stated that to uphold Lord Krishna’s message, ending the acts of evildoers is also necessary. “We know how to protect dharma and how to end evil. Along with giving the message of dharma, we also undertake the mission of using the Sudarshana Chakra. Our Sudarshana Chakra is aimed at those who act against the nation,” he said, referring to Operation Sindhoora.

Prime Minister Modi later arrived at the assembly hall after visiting Krishna Math. As part of the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana program, he recited the concluding verses of the 18th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Union minister Pralhad Joshi, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, minister Byrathi Suresh, Udupi–Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Shivamogga MP Raghavendra, and BJP state president B Y Vijayendra were present on stage. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari and Rajya Sabha member Veerendra Heggade welcomed him.

At Udupi Sri Krishna Math, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the title ‘Bharata Bhagya Vidhata’ as part of the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana. Paryaya Puttige Math seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji bestowed the honour and requested the Prime Minister to develop an ‘Udupi Corridor’ similar to the Kashi Corridor.

The concluding verses of the 18th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita were recited collectively as part of the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana.

Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamij of Paryaya Sri Puttige Math, in his introductory note said, “Sanskrit is the language of the Bhagavad Gita. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the Laksha Kanta Gita Parayana, it is as though Arjuna himself has arrived. The very meaning of the name Narendra is ‘embodiment of Arjuna’. His presence elevates the message of the Gita. The Vishwagita Paryaya attains completion today with the arrival of a true world leader.”

Modi first had the divine darshan of Lord Krishna through the Kanaka Kindi, followed by the inauguration of the newly gold-plated Teertha Mantapa. The ceremony was marked by the lighting of a lamp, in the presence of Math Swamiji and prominent dignitaries.

Prime Minister Modi held a formal conversation with the Swamiji’s of the Ashta Maths. Vedic scholars chanted the Upanishads, Vedas and Bhagavad Gita in the Math courtyard, creating a spiritual ambiance. Modi received Krishna Prasada and visited the historic Sarvajna Peetha, the sacred seat where Acharya Madhwacharya once sat.

From the Math, Modi proceeded to the Gita Mandira, where cultural artistes presented music on traditional instruments. The Prime Minister unveiled the new idol of Lord Anantha Padmanabha installed at the Mandira. He also viewed the Meditation Hall, where verses of the Bhagavad Gita are inscribed on the stone walls.

Prime Minister Modi paid floral tributes to the idol of Kanakadasa and offered prayers to Lord Krishna through the Kanakana Kindi. Puttige Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji applied a Madhwa Sampradaya tilak, placed Angaraka Akshate, and blessed him with Teertha and Tulsi mani. A special tilak prepared from Homa ash was also applied.
