Sullia, Dec 18: A crane engaged in development work at Subrahmanya Road railway station in Nettana village, Kadaba taluk, toppled onto the railway tracks on Wednesday after the ground beneath it gave way, officials said.

The mishap occurred as construction work was underway at the station.

A section of the platform collapsed, causing the crane to overturn and fall onto the tracks. The crane operator sustained minor injuries in the incident.

“Fortunately, the crane did not touch the overhead electric wires, and there were no trains at the station at the time,” said an official, adding that the situation could have turned serious under different circumstances.

The overturned crane was later lifted and cleared from the tracks with the help of two other cranes, ensuring that rail operations could resume safely.

This incident highlights the risks associated with ongoing development work at busy railway stations, even when precautionary measures are in place.
