AI-Generated clip sparks rumours of Govinda in ‘Avatar: Fire and ash’, debunked by experts

Mumbai, Dec 23: A viral video circulating on social media shows Bollywood actor Govinda seemingly making a vibrant cameo in James Cameron’s latest Hollywood blockbuster, Avatar: Fire and Ash, dressed in glittery Indian attire as a Na’vi. The clip, widely shared and discussed online, has raised curiosity among fans, but sources confirm that it is entirely AI-generated and not part of the actual movie.

In the manipulated video, Govinda speaks in his trademark Mumbai dialect while Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his on-screen family appear in the background — scenes that do not exist in the official film. Experts say the clip was created to capitalize on Govinda’s long-standing claim of having been approached by James Cameron for the original Avatar (2009).

Govinda had previously mentioned in interviews that he met Cameron, who offered him a role in the iconic project for ?18 crore. The actor, however, declined, citing the extensive shooting schedule of 410 days and the challenges of painting his body for the role. Govinda also claimed that he suggested the film’s title to Cameron, a revelation he later said he regretted, as Avatar went on to earn $2.92 billion globally. Its sequel, The Way of Water, grossed $2.3 billion, and the latest instalment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, reportedly opened with $347 million worldwide.

Pahlaj Nihalani, producer and long-time collaborator of Govinda, clarified that the actor may have confused Cameron’s Avatar with a shelved Bollywood project they had worked on, also titled Avatar. The project, a sports drama, was partially shot and later cancelled at Govinda’s request.

In summary, while Govinda’s association with James Cameron remains anecdotal, the viral Na’vi clip is a product of AI technology and holds no connection to the real film. Fans are advised to enjoy it as a creative digital recreation rather than an actual cameo.
