Washington, Dec 25: India’s ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, visited Mar-a-Lago in Florida during the Christmas–New Year holidays, where he met Sergio Gor, the incoming US Ambassador to India, to discuss ways to further strengthen India–US relations.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Sergio Gor said it was a pleasure to interact with Ambassador Kwatra and noted that this marked the Indian envoy’s first visit to Mar-a-Lago, where US President Donald Trump is spending the holiday season.

Kwatra described the interaction as productive and wide-ranging, especially as Gor prepares to take up his new diplomatic assignment in New Delhi. He said the discussions covered shared objectives, with a strong emphasis on enhancing trade relations and outlining Gor’s priorities for deepening the bilateral partnership once he assumes office.
Trade and economic cooperation emerged as a key theme of the talks, underscoring the growing focus both nations place on commercial engagement as a cornerstone of their broader strategic relationship.
The meeting was held at Mar-a-Lago, a venue known for hosting high-profile political and diplomatic engagements and currently serving as President Trump’s holiday residence.
In a separate engagement, Gor also hosted Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay during the Bhutanese leader’s first visit to Florida. Gor shared that he was pleased to welcome the prime minister to the state.
India and the United States have steadily expanded cooperation across multiple sectors in recent years, including trade, defence, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. At the same time, India maintains close and longstanding ties with Bhutan, marked by strong political trust, economic cooperation, and developmental support.
