Hosapete (Vijayanagara), Dec 27: A 52-year-old tourist from France was rescued after being stranded for nearly two days following a fall near the historic Octagonal Bath at Hampi, a Unesco World Heritage Site. The injured tourist was admitted to the Koppal district hospital on Friday and is stated to be in a stable condition.
The incident occurred around 6 pm on December 24, when the tourist, identified as Bruno Roger, attempted to climb a hillock close to the monument. He reportedly slipped on the rocky terrain and suffered a serious leg injury, leaving him unable to move.

Due to the isolated nature of the area and low footfall during evening hours, the injured tourist remained unnoticed for two days. Despite intense pain and limited mobility, he managed to survive at the spot and later crawled into a nearby banana plantation.
Farmers who spotted him alerted the police, following which personnel from the local police station along with officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) rushed to the scene and shifted him to the hospital.
Police said Roger had arrived in India alone and was staying at a homestay in Kaddirampura village near Hampi. Preliminary investigations suggest he had ventured out alone to explore the heritage area when the mishap occurred.
Advising tourists to exercise caution, police warned visitors against exploring rocky and secluded areas, especially during late hours, and urged strict adherence to safety guidelines while visiting heritage zones.
