Udupi, Dec 31: A child was killed and several passengers sustained serious injuries after a private bus rammed into a hillside at Hulikal Ghat late on December 30 night.
The bus, belonging to a Kundapur-based private operator, was travelling from Davanagere to Mangaluru when the accident occurred. The mishap is suspected to have taken place after the driver lost control of the vehicle, reportedly due to drowsiness.
The front portion of the bus was completely damaged in the impact. The injured, identified as Sharifabi (57), Imam Sab (73) and Safna (28), have been admitted to a private hospital. Other injured passengers were shifted to different hospitals, including private hospitals in Udupi.
Police personnel rushed to the spot, conducted an inspection and registered a case in connection with the incident.
